[Friday Five: an explanation]With some innovations I'm starting to the new year with the Friday five. You may have noticed, that I've modified the logo a bit :-) If you think it's too dark or too much, you can keep with the old one, I simply wanted to play around with the picture...
Yes, maybe you've realized, that I've nembered this week as #25, even though there was no #24 but let's pretent that I never have any deficites :D
I've decided, that in the future I will only do any Friday five. No fixing, whether book week and whatnot, but simply what comes up to my mind. That doesn't mean, that there will be nothing about books, but not regularly. It's already enough that I do it weekly, you could almost believe that I'm a person with a distinctive sense of order
Fünf Lieder, die dich im letzten Jahr begleitet haben /Five songs that accompanied you the last yearEigentlich wollte ich einen Extrapost schreiben, aber dann wurde mit die magische Zahl Fünf gewahr und ich wandelte das ganze kurzerhand in einen Fünf am Freitag Post um ;-)
//Actually I wanted to write and extra post on this, but then I realized the magic number five and I turned the whole thing into a Friday Five post ;-)
1. Viva la Vida -Coldplay
Yes, for those who don't listen to music older than six months, this is old. For me this doesn't matter, because I've actually discovered this song this year. We sang this song in our school choir and it's one of these songs whch sound so flurry and happy and still have these sad lyrics, that make you world-weary. Okay, maybe this song doesn't sound that happy, but, uhm, the interpretation of this song in the school choir when we sang it was quite a happy on (imagine a bunch of crazy teenagers dancing to this song) that's why I remember it this way...
2. Falling -Haim
This is afterwards kind of funny. There was this blog, where the video was embedded and I was only blogging for oneor two weeks and didn't even know how to embed YouTube videos and I was so fascinated by that video, that I watched it again and again. Yeah, that was it :P. The song is nice and sometimes I knew it really well, that's why I listeneed to it during the year again and again. And thereby by accident I noticed that you can copy the embed code with a right-click...
3. King -Lauren Aquilina
Is there any song this year that I didn't discover because of a music video? I don't know. Damn YouTube... well, anyway, this music video is by Julie and I'm very thankful for her, because then I wouldn't know the song :D
4. Let it Go -Idina Menzel
Can you still listen to this song or do you just don't stand it anymore? A friend of me told me, that she can only listen once a year, because it otherwise loses it's effect. Maybe she's right, but it still doesn't keep me of sometimes listening to this song in an infinite loop... by the way Idina Menzel this year also has another meaning for me, because I sang in the musical RENT this year and Idina Menzel was in the original Broadway Cast of RENT. Though, admittedly our version of RENT was miles beyond the thingd happening at Broadway...
5. Saints and Sinners -Jeana Leslie & Siobhan Miller
Actually this song accompanies me much longer than this year, because two years ago these singers once performed in my hometown. Back then I bought a CD of them and had to assert that of all things this song wasn't in it. Sigh. So I've downloaded the song. Regrettably in the downloaded version the lyrcis booklet wasn't included and I had to listen and find out what the two are actually singing. And this year I finally made an attempt to search for them:
SAINTS & SINNERSIt was Sunday morning in our town
And I sat on my steps and I looked at the ground
And I bowed my head as they shuffled past
All the saints being called to the morning mass
Chorus (oder Refrain oder wenn ihr von Vorgestern seid: Kehrreim)
And way off in the distance there rang a bell
way off in the distance there rang a bell
And they rang for the saints and the sinners as well
way off in the distance there rang a bell.
I remember my lessons of Sunday school
and I can't help but think that maybe I'm a fool
For I see no part of a greater plan
just the joy and the sorrow of my fellow man
And here we stand as life rushes past
between our first breath and our last
and here we stand between East and West
and here we stand between birth and death
I was watching my TV the other night
There was a war on the Left
There was a war on the Right
And is it any wonder it's us or them
There's a long way from heaven to Bethlehem.
//And that's what I had to tell you. Let's get to what you want to tell about this. Write to the comments what moved you musically this year of simply write anything :-)
And If you've got a lot to tell, leave me your link:
